In state economic accounts, what does GDP primarily measure?
Note
State gross domestic product measures the value added by production occurring within the state during a specified period.
In economic accounts, value added is output minus intermediate inputs purchased from other firms. This avoids counting the same material repeatedly as it passes through production stages. Industry value added can be summed across sectors when using suitable current-dollar accounts.
