What does quarterly GDP reported at an annual rate describe?
Note
A quarterly annualized GDP figure expresses a quarterly rate at a yearly pace and is not equivalent to the unannualized quarter's output.
A quarterly annual rate scales a quarter's flow to a hypothetical yearly pace under an annualization convention. It is not the cumulative amount produced during that quarter or the actual GDP for an entire calendar year. Annualization facilitates rate comparisons across quarters but should not be misread as observed annual output.
