Why are foreign-born share and non-English language-at-home share not interchangeable?
Note
Foreign-born share and language spoken at home describe different population characteristics.
A U.S.-born person may speak a language other than English at home, and a foreign-born resident may primarily speak English. These measures describe distinct aspects of a population. Neither percentage by itself measures fluency, integration, or citizenship status.
