What does treaty ratification alone fail to prove about Indigenous removal?
Note
Treaty ratification is evidence of a legal process, not sufficient evidence of broad consent among the affected Indigenous nation.
A formal process can occur despite opposition from the people affected. Historical analysis must also examine representation, coercion, and the positions of the nation’s communities rather than equating government approval with universal agreement.
