What is lost when forced Indigenous removal is described only as voluntary migration?
Note
Treating forced removal as ordinary voluntary migration erases the role of coercive policy and military action.
The term migration alone describes movement, but it does not explain the conditions under which movement occurred. Including coercion makes the account more accurate and preserves the experiences and choices of the affected communities.
