Why should Georgia’s chained-dollar industry GDP levels not simply be added outside the reference year?
Note
BEA chained-dollar industry components generally cannot be summed to reproduce aggregate real state GDP outside the reference year.
Chain measures use changing weights rather than one fixed set of prices. Their components remain useful for studying each series, but adding them as if they were ordinary current-dollar amounts can produce misleading totals.
