Which approach best represents Lenape history in New Jersey?
Note
New Jersey history should distinguish precolonial Lenape life, colonial displacement, and continuing descendant communities.
A sound account includes Lenape life before European settlement, colonization and displacement, and continuing descendant communities. Treating Indigenous people only as historical subjects erases living identities and experiences. Living communities should have agency in how their own history and identity are described.
