When is BEA real GDP in chained dollars especially useful?
Note
Estimating production growth after adjusting for price changes is correct. BEA chained-dollar real GDP is appropriate for evaluating growth but not for interpreting nominal spending totals.
Real GDP is inflation-adjusted, and a value in chained dollars cannot be treated as the same thing as current-dollar GDP.
