What is storm surge capable of doing along low-lying Jersey Shore communities?
Note
Storm-driven sea-level increases can temporarily flood low-lying New Jersey coastal areas.
Wind and low pressure can push seawater above expected tide levels. Flooding becomes worse when storm surge overlaps high tide or when waves push water farther inland. Surge heights should not be confused with ordinary astronomical tides.
