The Delaware, Passaic, and Raritan drainage systems connect different parts of New Jersey to different receiving waters.

Each drainage basin collects water from its surrounding watershed. The Delaware flows along the western boundary, while the Passaic and Raritan drain important areas of northern and central New Jersey. Watersheds are better identified using drainage divides than county boundaries.
