Nathuram Godse and his accomplice, Narayan Apte, were convicted and sentenced to death for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi on January 30, 1948.

Godse and Apte were both hanged on November 15, 1949, at Ambala Central Jail in Ambala, India. Godse was the main perpetrator of the assassination, while Apte played a supporting role in the planning and execution of the crime. The assassination of Gandhi, who was a prominent leader in the Indian independence movement and a symbol of nonviolence, caused outrage and shock in India and around the world.
