Why should a one-year ACS estimate not be casually compared with a five-year estimate?
Note
A five-year ACS estimate should not be compared casually with a one-year estimate without considering methodology and period.
A one-year estimate represents data collected over one calendar year; a five-year estimate pools observations to improve precision for smaller places. Comparing them requires attention to different periods, weighting, and sampling errors. The larger pooled sample may improve local precision but obscure rapid short-term changes.
