Why should a port’s reported total economic impact not be treated as direct GDP contribution?
Note
A port's reported direct, indirect, and induced economic impacts are not identical to its direct contribution to state GDP.
Economic impact studies may report direct, supplier-chain, and household-spending effects, sometimes in gross output or jobs. These measures should not automatically be added to BEA direct value added or called GDP. Gross-output multipliers and value-added accounts answer different economic questions and should be labeled accordingly.
