Why can nominal GDP and real GDP grow at different rates?
Note
The difference between nominal and real GDP growth reflects the effects of changing prices and measurement methods.
Nominal GDP incorporates price changes and output changes, whereas real GDP removes the estimated contribution of price inflation. Their growth rates therefore need not match. Both GDP concepts are informative, but they answer different analytical questions.
