What information is missing from a median household-income statistic alone?
Note
A median income statistic cannot by itself describe the full spread of New Jersey household incomes.
The median locates the midpoint but says little about dispersion or the tails. Two states can have identical median household income while differing greatly in poverty, wealth concentration, and housing costs. Quantile ranges, inequality measures, and cost-of-living information add detail beyond the median.
