To which branch of the Indo-European language family do Lithuanian and Latvian belong?
Note
Lithuanian and Latvian are the two surviving languages of the Baltic branch of the Indo-European family. Lithuanian in particular is noted by linguists for retaining many archaic phonological and morphological features that are of interest for comparative Indo-European studies. The Baltic branch is distinct from Slavic and Germanic branches and from non-Indo-European Finno-Ugric languages of the region.
