How does emancipation differ from Reconstruction?
Note
Emancipation ended legal enslavement; Reconstruction concerned rebuilding political and social systems after the war.
These terms refer to related but different changes. Ending a legal status did not by itself settle questions about voting, education, employment, or political power, which became central issues in the postwar period.
