What should a balanced account of Georgia’s civil rights movement include?
Note
Georgia's civil rights history involved local organizers as well as nationally recognized leaders.
Community organizing helped create the conditions for public campaigns and sustained participation. A leader-centered account can be incomplete when it leaves out the people who organized meetings, took risks, and continued the work locally.
