What explains why two maps assign different lengths to Florida’s coastline?
Note
Different spatial resolution and treatment of inlets and island shores is correct. The apparent length of Florida's coastline varies with mapping resolution and whether small inlets and barrier-island shorelines are traced.
A more detailed shoreline map can measure additional inlets and curves, changing the recorded length.
