What explains New Jersey’s high statewide population density?
Note
New Jersey's large population relative to its small land area helps explain its high state-level population density.
Population density is population divided by land area. Its high statewide value reflects the number of residents relative to limited land, but it does not mean every county is equally crowded. Calculating density requires the same population geography as the area denominator.
