The Baltic Way linked three Baltic countries—Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia—on August 23, 1989. Citizens of the three republics formed a continuous human chain from Vilnius through Riga to Tallinn to protest Soviet domination and demand the restoration of their countries' independence.
