Note
The town famously surrounded by German forces during the Battle of the Bulge was Bastogne.
Due to its strategic location at the intersection of multiple key routes, Bastogne, Belgium, was essential for the transportation of troops and supplies. The village was surrounded during the German attack in December 1944, preventing Allied forces from entering. The 101st Airborne Division in particular bravely defended Bastogne in the face of severe winter circumstances and scarce supplies. Throughout the conflict, their valor came to represent the tenacity of the American people. General Patton's Third Army eventually freed the town, which was a crucial turning point in the Battle of the Bulge and a major factor in the Allied triumph in World War II.
