Russian Prime Minister Pyotr Arkady Evich Stolypin was shot in the Kiev Opera House while watching a performance with Czar Nicholas II in September 1911.
Stolypin was a reform-minded statesman who had implemented a series of unpopular measures, including land reform, in an effort to modernize Russia. He was a controversial figure, and many people opposed his policies. On September 18, 1911, he was attending a performance at the Kiev Opera House when he was shot by Dmitri Bogrov, a young man with ties to the revolutionary movement. Bogrov was arrested and later hanged for the crime. Stolypin died a few days later from his injuries. The assassination of Pyotr Stolypin was a significant event in Russian history and had significant political consequences.
