Calico is a famous ghost town in the Mojave Desert, known for its silver mining history and as a preserved tourist attraction.

Calico, located in Southern California’s Mojave Desert, was founded in 1881 during a silver mining boom. At its peak, it boasted over 500 mines and produced millions of dollars' worth of silver. However, when silver prices plummeted in the 1890s, the town was abandoned, leaving behind a ghost town. Today, Calico is a popular tourist destination, restored and maintained as a historical park showcasing its Old West charm. While Tombstone and Virginia City are also historic mining towns, they are located in Arizona and Nevada, respectively. Bodie, though another ghost town, is in the Eastern Sierra region, not the Mojave Desert.
