Note
One major flaw in the German strategy during the Battle of the Bulge was underestimating Allied resilience.
The Germans launched the offensive hoping to catch the Allies off guard and push through the Ardennes to split their forces. While they achieved initial success, they underestimated the strength, resolve, and ability of the Allied forces to quickly adapt and resist. Key moments, such as the fierce defense of Bastogne, highlighted the resilience of American troops, who held strategic positions despite being surrounded. Additionally, the quick mobilization of reinforcements and the eventual return of Allied air superiority after the weather improved dealt significant blows to the German strategy. This underestimation, combined with logistical challenges and supply shortages, ultimately contributed to the failure of the offensive.
