Note
The role of air power in the eventual Allied success in the Battle of the Bulge was it helped to turn the tide with bombing campaigns.
At first, in the early days of the German attack, bad weather significantly restricted Allied aviation operations. But as the weather improved, Allied air forces took control and launched bombing campaigns against German supply routes, logistical centers, and troop concentrations. The German offensive was halted and their capabilities were undermined thanks in large part to this air support. Regaining momentum for the Allies was greatly aided by the capacity to carry out airstrikes and offer close air support to ground forces. The successful counteroffensive, which resulted in the defeat of the German offensive and the recovery of lost territory, was ultimately made possible by the combination of strong air power and the tenacity of ground forces.
