Jamestown, located in Virginia, was the first permanent English settlement in North America, established in 1607.

Jamestown was founded by the Virginia Company of London and became the first permanent English settlement in what would later become the United States. It faced many hardships, including harsh conditions and conflicts with Native Americans, but ultimately survived and laid the groundwork for the expansion of English colonies in America. Plymouth (A) and Roanoke (C) were earlier settlements, but they were either temporary or failed. Williamsburg (D) was another important early settlement but came after Jamestown.
