Note
The Sonoran pronghorn primarily feeds on grasses, shrubs, and other desert vegetation to sustain itself in the arid environment.
The Sonoran pronghorn (Antilocapra americana sonoriensis) is a subspecies of pronghorn adapted to the extreme conditions of the Sonoran Desert. Its diet mainly consists of grasses, shrubs, forbs, and desert-adapted plants. During drier months, it also consumes succulent plants like cacti to extract moisture. Unlike carnivorous animals, the Sonoran pronghorn does not eat insects, birds, or small mammals. Its ability to digest tough desert vegetation and survive on limited water makes it well-suited for its habitat. This herbivore plays a crucial role in maintaining the desert ecosystem by controlling plant growth and serving as prey for predators.
