Douglas is the capital city of the Isle of Man.
It is also the capital and largest town in the Isle of Man, with a population of 27,938 (2011). It is located at the mouth of the River Douglas, and on a sweeping bay of two miles (three kilometers). The earliest organized ferry services emerged between Douglas and Whitehaven, established by William Nicholson in the 1750s. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has a lifeboat station at Douglas.
