What does the Continental Divide determine?
Note
The Continental Divide separates the watersheds that drain into different oceans.
The Continental Divide is a hydrological divide that separates the drainage basins of continents. In North America, the Continental Divide runs along the crest of the Rocky Mountains. This means that water on one side of the divide flows towards the Pacific Ocean, while water on the other side flows towards the Atlantic Ocean (including the Gulf of Mexico) or the Arctic Ocean. It's a key factor in determining river systems and water flow patterns across the continent.
