Note
The Endangered Species Act (ESA) protects all of the listed U.S. marine species: the North Atlantic right whale, Pacific salmon, and green sea turtle, among many others.
The ESA is a key law aimed at preventing the extinction of threatened and endangered species. It provides legal protection for species at risk by prohibiting actions that could harm them or their habitats. The North Atlantic right whale, critically endangered due to ship strikes and entanglement in fishing gear, receives extensive protection. Pacific salmon, vital for ecosystem health and fisheries, are safeguarded, especially due to habitat degradation. The green sea turtle, facing threats like poaching and habitat loss, also benefits from ESA protections to ensure its survival.
