Note
Hydraulic fracturing (fracking) is primarily associated with the extraction of natural gas from shale rock formations.
The technique known as hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is mostly employed to extract natural gas from subterranean shale formations. To cause cracks in the rock and increase the flow of gas to the surface, a high-pressure fluid is injected into the rock. Natural gas output in the United States has increased dramatically as a result of fracking, particularly from shale plays such as the Permian and Marcellus basins. Fracking has increased domestic supplies and reduced energy costs, but it has also caused environmental issues like air pollution, groundwater contamination, and seismic activity. Although oil extraction is another usage for it, natural gas generation is still its primary relationship.
