Coronavirus (COVID-19) disease is the first pandemic since the 2009 flu pandemic (H1N1). A pandemic is the “worldwide spread of a new disease,” according to the WHO. The WHO classified the novel coronavirus as a global public health emergency on January 30th 2020. Then on March 11th 2020, the Director-General of the WHO said "We have therefore made the assessment that COVID19 can be characterized as a pandemic".
