A notable aspect of troop diversity during the Battle of the Bulge was the integration of African American units.

While the U.S. military was still largely segregated during World War II, several African American units played crucial roles in the battle. Notably, the 761st Tank Battalion, an African American armored unit, fought bravely in the harsh winter conditions and contributed significantly to the Allied efforts. Their participation challenged racial stereotypes and demonstrated the capabilities of African American soldiers in combat. Although segregation persisted in the military, the bravery and effectiveness of these integrated units during the Battle of the Bulge helped pave the way for further integration and changes in military policies in the years that followed.
