What phenomenon significantly impacts plant and animal life in the Sonoran Desert?
Note
Monsoon rains bring seasonal moisture that significantly affects the growth, reproduction, and survival of plants and animals in the Sonoran Desert.
The Sonoran Desert experiences a unique weather pattern, including a summer monsoon season (typically from June to September). These monsoon rains provide much-needed water, triggering plant growth, flowering, and increased animal activity. Many desert plants, such as cacti and wildflowers, rely on these rains to reproduce. Likewise, animals such as desert tortoises, amphibians, and insects become more active during this period. Unlike earthquakes, snowstorms, or tornadoes, which are rare or have minimal impact, monsoon rains are a critical ecological driver in the Sonoran Desert.
