Note
The Death Valley Salt Flats, located in California's Mojave Desert, are one of the largest and most famous salt flats in the region.
The Death Valley Salt Flats are located in Bad water Basin, the lowest point in North America, within Death Valley National Park. This vast, flat area is covered with salt deposits left behind from an ancient lake that once filled the valley. Due to the region’s extreme heat and dryness, the water evaporates, leaving a thick salt crust. The salt flats are not only a unique geological feature but also a key habitat for desert wildlife. The Death Valley Salt Flats are famous in the Mojave Desert, but the Bonneville Salt Flats and Black Rock Desert are located in different regions of the United States. Situated south of the Mojave Desert, the Salton Sea is a sizable saltwater lake.
