Who was the only woman and the only American to die during the yellow fever experiments of 1900–01?
Note
American nurse Clara Maass was the only woman and the only American to die during the yellow fever experiments of 1900–01. On August 14, 1901, Maass allowed herself to be bitten by an infected Stegomyia fasciata mosquito (later renamed Aedes aegypti). Contrary to expectations, however, Maass came down with a severe fever and died 10 days later.
