Lake Michigan is unique among the Great Lakes because it is entirely located within the United States.

Lake Michigan is the only Great Lake that is completely on U.S. territory, in contrast to the other lakes that are shared by the United States and Canada. The only one of the five Great Lakes that does not touch Canada is Lake Michigan, which is also the second largest by volume.
