Islam is a major world religion founded in the 7th century CE in the Arabian Peninsula. Followers, known as Muslims, believe in one God (Allah) and follow the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, who is considered the last prophet in a line that includes figures like Abraham and Jesus. The Quran, Islam’s holy book, is regarded as the literal word of God as revealed to Muhammad.

Muslims practice five core duties, known as the Five Pillars of Islam, which include the declaration of faith (Shahada), prayer (Salah), almsgiving (Zakat), fasting during Ramadan (Sawm), and pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj). Islam emphasizes community, compassion, and social justice, encouraging adherents to lead a life of morality and responsibility. With over a billion followers globally, Islam is diverse, encompassing various cultures and traditions, and fosters a sense of unity among its believers through shared beliefs and practices.
